About Joao Ferraz, MD
Joao Ferraz, MD, is a fellowship-trained Critical Care Medicine specialist at Long Beach Medical Center. He completed his fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he received extensive training in the management of critically ill patients, including advanced mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic support, and cardiovascular critical care.
Prior to fellowship, Dr. Ferraz practiced as a hospitalist at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his Internal Medicine residency in Chicago and earned his medical degree from the University of São Paulo in Brazil.
Dr. Ferraz has particular interests in mechanical ventilation, respiratory failure, hemodynamics, cardiovascular critical care, and the care of patients with complex multisystem illnesses. His training also includes extensive experience with advanced mechanical circulatory support, including ECMO, ventricular assist devices, and other temporary mechanical support systems.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ferraz is involved in medical education, clinical research, and quality improvement. He has published several peer-reviewed studies focused on the management of critically ill patients with respiratory failure and continues to pursue research aimed at improving evidence-based care and outcomes in the intensive care unit.
Originally from Brazil, Dr. Ferraz is fluent in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French. Outside of medicine, he enjoys tennis, skiing, traveling, and spending time with his family.
